MAT

MAT (Management Aptitude Test)

Management Aptitude Test is an aptitude test MAT is conducted by Centre for Management Services, which is a specialized division of AIMA (All India Management Association). MAT is usually conducted 4 times in a year in January, May, September and December. Every year it is taken by hundreds of MBA aspirants in India, as a good score in MAT is likely to put the candidate in a reputed and AICTE approved management institutions. Presently, MAT has even got the status of a National Entrance Test by the Ministry of HRD (Government of India, letter no. F.17-20/2003-TS.I dated 23 November 2004). Besides having test centers all over India, MAT is also conducted in overseas location.


Eligibility for MAT Exam
    
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is one of the important entrance tests for the admission to postgraduate programs in the field of management. The admission seekers have to appear in the entrance test to get selected for these programs. The AIMA selects only those students for the entrance test who fulfill all these eligibility requirements given in the following lines.


    * The candidate has to possess Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, that is, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, B.Tech, etc. the candidates should have done graduation or its equivalent under 10+2+3 examination pattern, from any recognized institute of University, which is recognized by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
    * Those students, who have appeared for final year of the qualifying examination and waiting for their results, are also eligible to apply for the MAT exam.
    * The final year appearing candidates may also apply for the competitive entrance test, but they have to show all the required documentary evidences or certificates at the time of admission.

Examination Pattern

The question paper of MAT exam of the test is designed as to examine a candidate’s skills and knowledge. This is the reason why the management of the competitive entrance test has not prescribed any particular curriculum for it. The examination pattern of MAT exam changes from year to year. However, the examination pattern given below have been followed every year.


    * Management Aptitude Test (MAT) consists of multiple choice type questions. Each question comprises four options, in which the candidates have to choose the right one of them.
    * The candidates are awarded with one mark for each correct answer. There is no provision for negative marking in the aptitude test.
    * The test consists of 200 questions, which are expected to be answered by the candidates within two and a half hours duration.

The competitive entrance test contains five papers:
Language Comprehension (40)
Mathematical Skills (40)
Data Analysis (40)
Intelligence & Critical Reasoning (40)
Indian & Global Environment Section (40)


Syllabus

The candidate’s marks obtained in MAT exam are accepted by All India Management Association - Centre for Management Education (AIMA-CME) and other AICTE-approved Management Institutes, colleges and university departments. There is no particular academic syllabus has been designed by the management of MAT Exam. The following syllabus has been prescribed for students preparing for appearing in MAT exam.

English Section
Verbal ability, language comprehension and grammar are the topics.

Mathematics
Generally, questions testing the quantitative aptitude and mathematics skills of the candidates are asked.

Data Interpretation
Students should prepare to have knowledge of data analysis skills and understanding of data sufficiency.

Reasoning Ability
Questions that test critical reasoning skills and logical thinking are included in the paper.

General Knowledge
The candidates should have thorough knowledge of important contemporary issues at the national and international level.
